"Ashes and Snow" is not just a simple exhibit of photographs but is a great, unpublished project by an artist called Gregory Colbert. The Canadian photographer in fact has worked on this event for ten years and the result now is very awaited. The heart of the exhibit is the sense of nature and for this reason the Colbert's pictures are often bound by the animal universe (the symbol of the exhibit is an elephant) and by its relationship with the men. "Ashes and Snow" speaks about the human condition and it wants to remember us that we belong to the natural order of universe. It is an ambitious project but the Canadian photographer is a good artist and this exhibit in the beautiful Arsenale area is one of the greatest cultural events of 2002 in company with the present Pollock exhibit, and the Egyptian world in autumn.
"It' s only a work that I've made with peace, silence and calm" said the "ascetic" Gregory Colbert that doesn't speak of money or sponsors. And the peacefulness invades also the spectator when walking along the Arsenale among the big (2-3 meters) and numerous (about 300 in 13,000 square meters) pictures.
"Ashes and Snow" is one of the biggest individual exhibit of history. Also for this reason it's not to miss.
