LUCIO FONTANA
Venezia/New York - Peggy Guggenheim Collection
from 9 June to 10 December 2006
The two series of works, “Le Venezie” and the “New York works”, created back-to-back within a few short years, have never before been shown together in a dedicated exhibition.
This exhibition - curated by Luca Massimo Barbero, Associate Curator of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, with the official patronage of the Lucio Fontana Foundation - represents therefore a unique opportunity to view the works together. Since their exhibition at the Martha Jackson Gallery, and acquisition by important museums and private collectors, the Venice works have never again been reassembled; likewise the New York works.
There exists therefore the opportunity not only to present a lesser-known aspect of Fontana’s work, but also to convey a unique personal conception of the two cities directly to the public.
