Donna Leon's Commissario Brunetti

Donna Leon is one of the mysteries of Venice, if we needed one more. Unknown to the majority of italian readers, she is a writer of best seller detective stories which have fans all over the world. Her "heroe", Commissario Brunetti, is a likeable, moral and methodical detective, intelligent and sophisticated officer of venic police. Donna Leon writes like a female Ed McBain, only the detectives cruise canals and not the mean streets of New York.

"Death at la Fenice" (1992) was Brunetti's first case. "Dressed for Death", "Death in a strange Country", "Acqua Alta" are among the most popular detective stories of hers, and are also set in Venice.

Please note that "The Anonymous Venetian" was retitled by the American publisher "Dressed for Death. Here , Commissario Guido Brunetti  sacrifices his vacation in the mountains to track down a scam and the murderer of a banker disguised as a transvestite.
